How to Submit Your Site Map to Google

So, now that your site is live, how do you get your little corner of the web found by the big guys? How do you let Google know your site exists?

I’ve put together a cheat sheet you can download and reference, but here’s a quick rundown on how you can submit your site map to Google!

Sign into Google/Create Google account:

  • Make sure to use the account you want attached to your business/website

Go to Google Search Console:

Verify Ownership:

  • Follow instructions on pop-up window on verifying domain ownerships through DNS records

Submit Sitemap:

  • Once verified, select “Property” on left side of Google Search Console.

  • Select “Sitemaps” on left side under your property.

  • Add URL of sitemap. For Squarespace sites, it’s “yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml”

Watch Your Stats!

  • Google will automatically crawl your submitted site

  • You can see statistics of your website through Google via the Search Console
